First Grade News

Happy Wednesday!

Things have been going great in first grade! Today we started the day off, like we do everyday, with our morning meeting. We sang a song and then talked about different kinds of weather patterns. A lot of us are excited for winter time and possible snow!

After our morning meeting, we worked on reading, writing, and spelling. Students were divided into three learning centers. At one learning center, students put pictures in alphabetical order. At the second learning station, students practiced beginning sounds and putting words together. At the third station, students practiced ending sounds and putting words together.

After reading, writing, and spelling, students went to Spanish! They had a great time. Then we practiced our math facts and identifying whole numbers all the way up to 100! It was so much fun!

Then we had lunch and celebrated Khayla's sixth birthday with cupcakes! They were so good! Happy birthday Khayla!

After lunch, we had P.E., and then social studies. We learned about timelines and our past, present, and future!

Below are some pictures from our great day.

Tomorrow we will go over sight words in the morning and practice more math facts in the afternoon. We may even do our first science experiment. I will keep you posted!

Week 1 -First Grade!

We have been having so much fun in first grade!

Last week we got a lot done. As a class, we came up with first grade class rules. Everyone has done a good job following the rules!

We also read an awesome book called First Day Jitters by Julie Danneberg. The story was about a teacher who was feeling nervous on her first day of school. After, we filled out our own first day jitters worksheets. A lot of students were nervous to meet me! They are not nervous anymore though!

Last week I sent out information about our "Star of the Week" program and a survey about how your child learns. I think it is best when parents and teachers work together so a child can succeed both inside and outside the classroom. These surveys will help me better understand how your child learns. Could I please have that form filled out by the end of this week? If you need an extra, please let me know!

I hope everyone has a great week!

First Day!

We had a great day in first grade today!  I am very excited for an excellent year together.

This morning we read the book, First Day Jitters by Julie Danneberg.  In this silly story, students learn about a teacher who is jittery before her first day teaching.  The kids easily identified how the main character was feeling both before the start of the day and after.  The kids could relate to her feelings! Tomorrow we will review the story and students will fill out their own first day jitters worksheet.

We also started on our first day jitters bulletin board. Students drew self-portraits and below them I will display their first day jitters worksheet. Come check it out tomorrow!

Below are some pictures from our fun day!

Happy start of the school year!  I am very excited to meet everyone tomorrow. First grade is going to be a fun year!

I use my blog each week for a weekly update on Fridays, as well as posts and photos of various lessons and activities. I hope that you'll find the blog to be a great resource and reference point for things going on in first grade.

See everyone tomorrow!
